Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple cosmetic dental process that gives you a bright and beautiful smile. The dentist applies a whitening gel that contains hydrogen peroxide on the teeth. When activated, the gel liberates oxygen molecules that enter the porous structure of the teeth and remove the staining particles. This leaves behind whiter teeth, which you can flaunt with confidence.

Why do the teeth stain?

  • Teeth stain mostly as a result of excessive consumption of colored foods and beverages.
  • Patients who chew tobacco and smoke cigarettes tend to experience extreme staining of teeth.
  • Improper and irregular brushing and flossing habits leave a lot of microbes on the teeth. Over time, this leads to the formation of a yellowish or brownish layer of plaque on them.
  • Aging and excessive wear of the teeth can also make them dull-appearing.

What are the common teeth whitening procedures?

Conventional teeth whitening: Patients who have mild teeth discoloration and wish to get whiter teeth can opt for conventional teeth whitening. When you visit the dentist for your whitening session, the teeth will be cleaned thoroughly. The whitening gel will be applied and evenly spread so that the intensity of whitening achieved is uniform. The gel will be rinsed off, and the process may be repeated multiple times depending on the severity of the dullness.

At-home teeth whitening: You need not always visit the dentist to get your teeth whitened. Patients who wish to relax in the comfort of their homes and carry out the simple whitening process themselves can choose this approach. When you visit our dental practice, we will scan your teeth and use the data to provide a customized set of whitening trays to you, along with a whitening gel. You can take them back home and use them whenever you please. Squeeze a small amount of the gel onto the tray and put them. The trays ensure the whitening gel comes in contact with the teeth as required and prevents the saliva from interfering with it.

Laser teeth whitening: Laser teeth whitening is a highly effective and less time-consuming process. The dentist cleans the teeth, places a rubber dam on them, and uses photosensitive whitening gel. It will be activated using a laser of the right intensity, which then produces a foam that contains oxygen molecules. These molecules enter the tooth structure and bleach the staining particles, leaving you with a bright smile. The process is significantly quick, and the results are long-lasting.
