Discover the wonderful ways Invisalign works to straighten your crooked smile.

Even as an adult you may have wished that you could get rid of that gap between your front teeth. Or perhaps the bottom front teeth seem to overlap a bit more than you would like. Of course, the idea of wearing braces sounds less than appealing, which is why our Naperville, IL, family dentist Dr. Joon Sun is happy to offer Invisalign.

Could Invisalign work for me?

It’s entirely possible that it can if you are looking to make simple changes to the position of your smile. Invisalign is able to tackle a whole lot more problems than you may think including,

  • Spacing issues
  • Crowding
  • Bite problems (e.g. overbites; underbites)
  • Other alignment issues

Invisalign is able to address everything from mild to severe dental problems, but it won’t be the ideal way to perform more complicated tooth movements or to reposition jaws (ultimately, only traditional braces can effectively handle these cases).

How does Invisalign work?

Instead of bonding metal brackets to the front of your teeth, Invisalign uses several sets of clear aligners that are each custom made to shift certain teeth around to improve the alignment of your smile. Each aligner is uniquely molded to fit your mouth and our Naperville, IL, dentist will map out your entire treatment plan prior to getting your aligners. You’ll be able to see these subtle changes over time as you continue to swap out your aligners for new ones.

How long will I wear Invisalign?

You will wear your aligners every day. The more often you wear them the better. If you keep taking your aligners off, you’ll find that your treatment time may take much longer. It’s recommended that you wear aligners for about 22 hours out of the day, only removing them to eat, drink, brush, or floss your teeth.

The length of treatment will vary, depending on the severity of your symptoms. It can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months to complete. The average adult who gets Invisalign will often wear it for a year. For teens, this treatment time is comparable to wearing traditional braces.
